First, in the morning we will visit the GETTY to experience Cave Temples of Dunhuang: Buddhist Art on China’s Silk Road. The Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, comprise the largest, most richly endowed, and longest used treasure house of Buddhist art in the world. This exhibition features numerous objects originally from the site—such as paintings and manuscripts that have rarely, if ever, traveled to the United States, as well as three spectacular full-size cave replicas.
Second, in the afternoon we will visit LACMA to view Alternative Dreams: 17th-Century Chinese Paintings from the Tsao Family Collection
Showcasing one of the finest painting collections in the United States, this exhibition presents works by many of the most famous painters of this period, including Dong Qichang (1555–1636), considered the most versatile Chinese artist of the last five hundred years, and major, previously unpublished works by Gong Xian, Fu Shan, and Bada Shanren.
Transportation will include two pickup and drop off stops at Old Naval Hospital in Balboa Park and La Costa Park and Ride leaving at 7:00am and 7:30am respectively.
