Socially Engaged Art in Rural China: Can Chinese Art be socially responsible?
Panel Discussion & Exhibition with Three Contemporary Artists from China
Join us for an exclusive panel and exhibition with three artists: Yan Qu 渠岩, Fen Weng 翁奋, Jing Zuo 左靖, as they discuss how art can be used to better humanity. Professor and Curator Meiqin Wang 王美钦 will moderate this interesting discussion.
In the past decade, socially engaged art has become an important artistic movement in Mainland China. It addresses various problems brought about by China’s development, including capitalism, urbanization, and politics. This exciting panel and exhibition introduces the work of leading contemporary Chinese artists who have taken their practices to the countryside. These artists hope to revitalize the deprived rural regions through collaborative art and cultural activities, such as field research, art festivals, exhibitions, architectural preservation, educational programs, and agricultural product designs.
