Panda Nation Book Talk

November 16 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Join us for the Panda Nation Book talk on November 16th!

E. Elena Songster will talk about one of the most broadly recognized and adored animals, the giant panda, and her examination of its history in her recently released book with Oxford University Press, Panda Nation: The Construction and Conservation of China’s Modern Icon.  The panda has been called upon to serve as an ambassador for China, an advocate for nature protection, and has become linked to the cities it has graced with its presence.  Also a symbol of San Diego, the giant panda has had a truly global impact on foreign policy and the natural environment. Songster will trace the emergence of this iconic animal as an outgrowth of modern History and the rise of the People’s Republic of China.

The talk will take place at our Chuang Archive and Learning Center in downtown San Diego, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.
