Join the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum for a lecture and book-signing to explore Todd Braje’s newly released book, Shellfish for the Celestial Empire. This book sheds light on a group of enterprising Chinese immigrants who recognized the untapped resources along the coast of California. It was the Chinese immigrants who realized the fortune to be made in fishing, processing, and exporting the abundant intertidal black abalone of southern and Baja California.
