Jiātíng gùshì: Workshop session 2
August 31 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
On August 31st, the San Diego Chinese Historical Society and Museum will host the second of six oral history workshops, under the project title Jiātíng gùshì. We’re inviting community members and their families to share and record memories and stories at the Museum’s Pei Chen Liu and Tsun-Nien Chang Library at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Extension on J Street in San Diego’s Asian-Pacific Thematic Historic District.
We are pleased to welcome special guests Alexander Chuang and Agnes Chen to share stories related to their participation in efforts to save the building that housed the Chinese Community Church in the downtown area from 1927 until 1960, and which had been slated for demolition by the owner in the mid-1980’s. We are excited to hear from both about the process of relocating and renovating the building that now houses the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, in addition to their close participation in Museum operations from 1996 until 2016.
