CALLING ALL HISTORY BUFFS & ART ENTHUSIASTS!

The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum’s Docent Training Program is a five-month program starting in March 2020.  

OVERVIEW OF DOCENT TRAINING SCHEDULE IN 2020:

Class on Thursdays from 9:00am to noon at the Chuang Archive and Learning Center (541 Suite B Second Ave, San Diego, CA 92101)

Pre-class Docent Sample Tour at the San Diego Museum of Art, Chinese gallery on February 20th or February 27th at 10:00 AM.

Part 1: Chinese History and Culture (9 weeks)- starts on March 5th, and ends with a mid-term 25-minute tour during the week of May 4th. 

Part 2: US/CA History and Lifeways (7 weeks)- starts on June 3rd and concludes with a final 50-minute tour including both Parts 1 and 2, during the week of July 20th.

After graduation, each new docent contributes a minimum of 24 docent duty sessions per year. Each docent duty session is three hours. (Average 2 docent duty sessions or 6 hours per month).  Docents are a vital part of the Museum; they lead gallery tours for adults, children, and special interest groups, and give community presentations. The Museum is dedicated to providing visitors of all ages and backgrounds enriching experiences in the galleries and in the community.
