
Quanzhou: The Beginning of the Silk Road of the Sea, A Photo Exhibit by Chen Shizhe

Chen Shizhe’s photography captures the diverse local flavor of Quanzhou, an ancient port city in Fujian Province. The artist was born in September 1948. In his younger days, he practiced violin, stage design, singing and scriptwriting for theatrical plays. Also, he has made appearances on television. In 1981, he began learning photography and became a member of the Chinese Photographic Society. He is now the vice president of the Quanzhou Huaguang Institute of Photography and Art. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he was assigned to photograph Cai Guoqiang’s spectacular fireworks display. He has also published numerous collections of photography.
