Celebration of the Moon Festival
September, 2000

For many Chinese, the Moon Festival offers an occasion for loved ones to get together to eat moon cakes and appreciate the full moon at night. The exhibit featured the four main legends surrounding the popular festival. One regards the wife of an archer who drank the elixir of immortality and flew to the moon. Another relates the story of Wu Kang, an impatient apprentice banished to the Moon Palace to cut down a magically restoring tree. The third legend shares of a virtuous rabbit, while the fourth details the origins of the moon cake.
